25.

Helllloooooo FRIDAY! Woo hoo :) Hope you are all ready for a 3 day weekend, although I'm pretty sure mine is still a 2 day weekend, haha! Okay I'm feeling a little better today than I have been, which is good! And I lost another pound yesterday :) I am exactly where I was last Friday, which when thought of that way is kind of disappointing. But since I gained 5 lbs last weekend, I'm okay with being where I am -289.4- Remember Lucia has/had surgery today! Keep her in your prayers!

I am reading a couple of new books, that were suggested by Mary Shomon and I really think you all should check out 1 of them, (the other one I'm not very far into..so I'll let you know about that later) It is called the Slow Down Diet. Now I am NOT saying that you should stop the Thyroid Diet, or whatever diet you are on - if you aren't on one that's great too! - But this can be used with anything. It is an 8 week program, and it is all about eating slower, and breathing (well the first week anyway, which I'm about to finish) while you're eating! It's really interesting, and it shows how just by taking deep breaths while eating you can lose weight. When your breath stops, your metabolism stops. Your metabolism only works when you are completely relaxed. (which is why you burn a lot while you sleep). Let's say something happens and it scares your really bad and your breath catches, once it returns and gets normal, your metabolism will start again. It talks about how the French should be more obese and unhealthier than Americans because of what they eat...but because they take 2 hours !DANG! to eat their lunch, they are so much leaner and healthier! Anyway it's really cool, I'm finishing the 1st week, and you guys should check it out! Have a great weekend, I'll be checking comments and what not during the weekend, but there wont be a new post til Monday! Until next time ;-)

  1. I've tried so many different tips on how to eat slower, like setting down your fork and don't pick it up until you swallow, or take a sip between each bite, etc. I just keep freaking forgetting to do those things! I guess I just get caught up in the moment of food like a euphoric moment. lol

This sounds like a great book! I'll have to get it when I'm through with my 40 days. Thanks for the rec!

  2. Sharper -- Good luck with the HCG, and I know I'm the same way. I totally forget unless I have JUST gotten done reading the book. But I am thinking about it more and more so that's good :)

  3. This sounds like an interesting book and I'm going to put it on my reading list. Thanks for sharing it with us!

  4. It does sound like an interesting book! I'm still trying to fully understand the thyroid diet. I need to figure out how much fiber is in something without a label (like an apple) but just haven't had a chance. I am kind of discouraged at this point. I hit a major milestone last week with my weight but once again am back up. Kinda feeling like it's a step forward and three steps back right now. :( Also dealing with a back injury that makes exercise hard.

Sometimes I just wanna whine! lol Hope you have a great weekend and congrats on your success!! :)

  5. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2004 after getiing pregnant with my 2nd when my first was only 7 months old. I've just read Thyroid Disease:the Facts and Hypothroidism-The first Year and none of these books touched on the importance of taking your meds first thing in the morning. In fact it read that you could take it any time of day. Do you make sure to take it early in the day, with plenty of water and not to eat at least 30 mins after? Just wondering how critical that is?
I've had a lousy few months with my TSH up til almost 3. Luckily my Dr bumped me up to 150mcg and i've started to come out of the dumps. He also tested my cortisol level which was a very high normal-blech! Is that something you've ever been tested before?

  6. Linda -- It really is! I'm excited for you to check it out

Courtney -- That is always hard when stuff like that happens but try not to be discouraged! you'll get there and keep it off I promise! Don't push yourself to exercise if you're in pain. Always take care of yourself! Good luck!

Angela -- The time of day you take your meds it actually very important. You're supposed to not eat for an hour or two after, or before (and I think three if there is dairy??). I take mine right before I go to bed because it's been a couple hours after my last meal and a LONG time before my next meal. I have been tested for cortisol many times, but I fortunately don't have a problem with mine. So as long as your Dr. is checking and fixing both problems you should be fine! What do you mean til almost 3 with your TSH? That's the level, or you're can't go to sleep until then? Sorry! I just got a little confused :/ Good luck with everything!!

  7. Hey Molly,

Thanks for the book suggestion. Does sound interesting. I have to mentally slow myself down during a meal too keep me from eating too fast.

Also, I really thank you for the skelton outline of what foods to eat when during the day per the Thyroid Diet. I've been having really good success in just the 4 days I've been following the plan. I'm a big calorie counter and I just don't think I was eating enough and in the right combinations. I've got tons more energy and I'm seeing the numbers on the scale going down! Also, I exercise at least 30 minutes every day with most days more so that is a real plus as well.

I usually take my meds in the am but now I am wondering if I should switch to evening before bed. (I haven't left much time before eating something when taking them in the morning.) What do you suggest?
Thanks again for your great blog! Enjoy the weekend!

  8. Mary -- That's exactly how I am, I have to think about it before and after every bite. I'm hoping to get to the point where it just becomes second nature. That's great! I'm so glad that you're seeing success! That's so exciting :) I think you should for sure try taking it in the evening before bed. Try that for 3 weeks, see if you feel better! You're really supposed to give hours before and after so try it and let me know! :)

  9. I am so thankful I found your blog. I am on twitter are you? I have Hypothroidism and at about 278pounds. I had lost quite a bit of weight but then was feeling really down which is when my dr tested me for Hypothyroidsm. My level was 12! I could hardly get out of bed. Now I am struggling to find the right dose of medication after having a baby. I was basically being over medicated at the start of the year and having panic attacks every night. I feel not alone when I stumble across people in the same situation as me. My twitter name is sunstar66. If you are on there please connect with me so I remember to come back to your blog! Thanks!

  10. Molly, I got on the scale today and have only lost 2 lbs, as of May 17. I am in the very beginning of switching meds from the re-formulated Armour to NatureThroid. Not sure if I needed to give my body a chance to get back in balance. Either way, I'm glad it's a loss and not a gain. I'm also on my monthly cycle so that number may change in a few days, let's hope so.I'm doing okay with the eating changes and doing the hit and miss with my walking but overall feel much better. Will continue to keep moving forward with everything. Maria

  11. Laura -- I do have a twitter, but I haven't been on there for months! I don't even remember what my name is hahah! Were you diagnosed with hypothyroid before you got pregnant, after, or after you had the baby? I've heard a lot of pregnant women that never had problems can all of a sudden get hypothyroid, so lame right?? Are you still having panic attacks or have those stopped? I really hope you can get on a correct dose soon! It is so hard not being where you need to be :(

Maria -- no! no "only", YAY! you lost 2 lbs! That's awesome! The way I see it, is I was always gaining, any loss is SO exciting :) If you are changing medications they can definitely play a roll in how your body reacts. It usually takes 3 weeks for your previous meds to leave your body and the new ones to even start working. So those 3 weeks are kinda crazy for your body. Try not to worry, especially if you are on your time! Are you doing the thyroid diet? or are you doing something else. If you are doing the thyroid diet and you're wanting a little more of a change, try getting a little more water maybe? Or let's say you have 6 servings of protein, maybe only do 5? I don't know if you're wanting to see more of a difference, try changing something a little bit and see if that helps! I'm glad you're feeling better :) and GOOD LUCK!

  12. Molly, thanks for your encouraging words. I just got the results from recent lab work done and my TSH was 2.83 which is very high for me as I do much better at the lower end of the scale, so my Endo increased my meds by 1/2 a tablet. Hopefully I will see some changes and begin to feel alot better real soon as I've just crossed the 3 week mark for these new meds.
I am doing the Throid Diet and am following the freeform plan. I must say I have had my share of treats but not overdoing it by too much. I'm just more aware of what I'm eating so that helps. I know I need to be eating more veggies, that's a biggie for me. I think more water would also help, I'm drinking the recommended 64 oz so I can do more. Appreciate your input so much. Thanks, Maria
PS- how do I get my pic profile up here so I'm not coming up as anonymous ?

  13. Maria -- Oh gosh I have NO idea how you make it from anonymous to your name and picture. Just try looking around on your account site and see what you find. SORRY :( I wish I knew! haha! Yea if your TSH levels are normal but you don't feel good you should go until you do feel good! I hope you see some changes soon! As for having treats it's all about how you want things. If you want a lot of results FAST then obviously you would just have your 1 or 2 a week treats. But if you just want to steadily lose some weight (which for us is great!) Then if you want to have more treats that's fine! Yes veggies are supposed to be your best friend on this diet haha, it's great for me to have a lot handy just in case! Whatever 1/3 of your weight is, is a great amount of water to have! (unless 1/3 is 64 oz or less..then probably just try to go up to 80..haha) Good luck!
