11.

Hey everybody! Hope y'all are having a good day! So I'm definitely getting back on track I lost .8 lbs yesterday so I'm 1 lb away from where I was last Friday! And that also means I have 5.9 lbs until I am under  300 woo! Well in other news if you follow Mary Shomon you know she has a blog/bio etc. on about.com and today she informed me that she wrote a little blog about me! So fun! click here to go to her blog So thank you Mary you are truly wonderful! I seriously feel so blessed you guys! All of you are keeping me so inspired and so motivated and it's just been great!

One last thing...I happened to read on Mary's facebook today about someone who was hypo as well but they were talking about how they had been off their meds for a week because they hadn't gotten them refilled! (sorry if that person is reading this now this isn't to be mean to you it's just an FYI for everyone) Now I don't know if this person does that on a regular, but for everyone reading this: DON'T DO THAT!!! It's not like if you miss taking your birth control one day and you just go "Op! gotta stay away from the hubbs tonight!" (hahah) and just go on taking it again the next day and be fine. Obviously if you miss a day on your thyroid meds you do not double them the next day, BUT what I'm saying is it's not something as simple as forgetting your birth control. It's bad for you. Especially if you do it for quite a few days in a row! So if any of you miss your meds often (and often can be once every couple of weeks) try another way to remember. Set an alarm on your cell phone, have them in a place you know you're going to look at around the time of needing to take them, or do what I do! Mine are on my table next to my bed. They are impossible to miss, so I never miss taking them. Forgetting to take your medications can result in your endo not being able to treat you properly! If you do miss a day every now and then, that might be why your TSH levels are never that great. (But as I know from experience, sometimes your body just hates you and your TSH wont get level no matter what! ;-)) Hope you guys have a great day! Until next time!

  3. Hi Molly, just found your site by doing some research for myself. I also have Hasimoto's Disease and had surgery in 1972 for it. Been on Synthroid ever since. Although I had usually been able to keep my weight in check for the past six years I just keep gaining more and more. My synthroid dose had to be changed several times during the past six years. I'll have to read more of your blog as the days go on to see how you're losing the weight. Hopefully some of your tips will work for me. My doctor says it's because I'm getting older but that's just not a good answer to me.

  5. Thank you so much! Go Brenda Go! Jackandmack I don't think I would like that advice either :( My Dr says, don't try to diet or work out, just let the disease do what it will until we can control it...hmm...well...10 years of uncontrollable? No thanks I'm definitely not going to let it just "do what it will" I'm tired of being fat! haha!

  6. Hi, Molly
I just found your blog. I commend you for starting this blog and your dedication. You are an inspiration to many, so keep positive and you will succeed. I am 47 years old and I just found out I am hypo and I have endometrial hyperplasia and I have to have surgery to remove an adrenal adenoma. My weight gain has been over the last several years, yet I hardly eat. I am only 5 feet tall yet I am now 170 lbs. I just started levothyroxene 1 week ago, it has been such a struggle to find energy or motivation, Im just glad I found a Doctor who would listen to me after all these years. Now to get everything in sync and lose some weight. Diane

  7. Hey Diane! I understand that it's hard to find energy believe me! But if you just started levothyroxine a week ago it will take about two more weeks before it starts really affecting your body. So maybe write down how you feel now, and write down how you feel in two weeks see if there is any change! And maybe don't start trying to diet until you're starting to feel a little bit better! It's hard enough dieting when you have thyroid problems, and it's even harder when you feel worse! Good luck with getting everything regulated!

  8. Molly,

I have caught up with all your blog posts and commented on a bunch (what can I say, I'm chatty?) lol I have an appointment tomorrow with a doctor specializing in alternative medicine--hopefully she will shed some light on what's going on with me.

I am making plans now to run out to the bookstore and pick up Mary's book. I've read about it months ago, but I think I am just ready for something a tiny bit drastic...everything else I've tried has completley failed! boo.

Thank you for sharing your journey...perhaps I will do the same, though I admit, I am nervous to put it out there again (I tried doing this before I knew I had thyroid issues)... for fear of it failing. I am just beyond hopeless right now!!

Your journey is motivating! :) Keep it up!!

  9. Hey Molly! I came across your blog via miss Mary Shoman, so props to her for that! I just wanted to say you are beautiful and motivating...

I used to be "one of those people" who would put off calling in my refills and forget to take my pills... I don't know if this will be a help to anyone but every night I put a glass of water with my pills next to my alarm clock. So when I get up to shut off my alarm clock... Slam! BAM! Thank you, Synthroid. :)

Keep up the positive attitude, Molly! You rock

  10. Hey Molly,

I'm back. :) I just wanted you to know I linked your blog on mine today. I hope that's okay! I used to keep a weight loss blog, but as I couldn't lose anything, I stopped... (it was embarrassing, and at the time I didn't know it was thyroid-related) but I'm thinking of picking it back up again thanks to you! :)

Again, thanks for sharing your journey!!

  11. Thank you Courtney and Cheerleader! You guys are wonderful :)
Courtney - Of course it's okay if you linked my blog haha and that would be awesome if you started the weight loss blog again! Definitely get the book, it's great! I'm loving this! Good luck with the new Doctor, what are you looking to find out? What kind of meds were you wanting to look into? Thanks for following!
Cheerleader - I hope you didn't take my post as an insult, I was just sharing so that everyone knew it was a bad thing to do but I'm glad you don't do it anymore! I'm supposed to take mine in the middle of the night because of food and other things, but now I'm done eating 3-4 hours before I go to bed so I just have them on the nightstand, and I take them before I set the alarm! Great way that you have found! everyone needs to do whats easiest for them!

  12. Molly,

My endrocronologis told me that if I missed a day in taking my meds, to double up the next. He explained to me how the thyroid is very forgiving, even though I don't have one. The reason why I asked him about missing a day is because I read on Mary's emails that there was a study that took place about taking your thyroid medicine once a week. Of course, I was curious so I asked my doctor. He talked about synthroid being exactly what your body would naturally produce, IE: don't take generic medicine for your thyroid. He also said that thyroid medicine is sometimes prescribed to patients that are depressed. He said women naturally like to feel a little more stimulated than a normal range when you get your blood work done. BUT he also talked about "What is considered a normal range?" He actually is allowing me to be a tad bit higher dosage than the normal range would be prescribed, not enough to hurt me in any way. My new doctor has been researching thyroid disease for over 30 years, and I want to believe him when he tells me these things but living in a small town with limited resources, I can start to doubt the experts. He also listened for a change of all my ongoing sysmptoms. Even though my levels finally showed some promise, he took into consideration my lack of energy, etc.

There is one thing I finally figured out through years of taking synthroid, if you don't take your medicine at the exact time every day,on an empty stomach, you will have bad test results.

  13. Natalie thats great that you found a Doctor like that! If your Doctor said to double up if you miss a day then do what he says. I just know from my experience with the specialists I have that they said not to so I wont. I have done the take all your meds for one week at once thing. My doctor asked me to do it and I was for a quite a few months. But I'm now back to taking it every night, and she said, if you're taking them once a week and miss a week don't double up, just like if you're taking them once a day and you miss a day you shouldn't double up. So definitely do what your Doc says. I just make it so I never miss a day so I don't have to worry about it hahahaha!

  14. Natural thyroid supplements have the power to eliminate hypothyroidism. It may decrease the need for a high dosage of hormone replacement therapy.
