19.

Hey everyone! Okay so I'm definitely back on track, yesterday I lost the pound I gained over the weekend. :) I have lost 27 lbs in 5 weeks! yay! That means after I lose 3 more lbs I'm putting up another picture of myself! I did great on the Thyroid Diet yesterday and did my morning walk, like I said on the last post but then last night we got hit with a HUGE thunder storm (i loved it!) but that meant not going on a mile walk outside! So my hubby was so wonderful and he walked with me over to the apartment club house and stayed with me in the gym while I walked my mile on the treadmill! I have to admit I was more or less beating myself up though right when I walked in...there were two rather skinny girls in this tiny little workout room and I definitely took a couple blows to my self esteem. But then I realized, I'm doing this...I'm gonna be hott again someday soon! haha :) So I finished my mile and was definitely happy that I didn't chicken out!

I'm really excited of everyone else who is doing the Thyroid Diet (or any other diet as well), you all are doing amazing! And in case anyone else hasn't bought the book yet, I strongly recommend that you do! It's amazing!! Also there are a couple other books by Mary J. Shomon, Living Well with Hypothyroidism, and Thyroid Guide to Hair Loss, I don't know about the rest of you but my hair has thinned out so much from Hypothyroidism and I have little bald patches at the top of my head. (I style my hair in a way that you can't tell...but still) This is a great book I just got done reading it! I hope you guys will check these out! Until next time

  2. Hey Molly! Congrats on the pound lost! You are doing so good it is amazing! :) Don't you worry about skinny girls - I think deep inside they may also have a hypo-like issue or two ;) PLUS as you say you will be super hot soon. Congrats again!

  4. Hi again, just a question... do you write down everything you eat, or do you just check off on the sheet what you have had?

    Jen :)

  6. Way to go on the pound you lost, you are definitely staying on track. I know that my hair loss was horrid at first between starting out hyperthyroid, getting the radioactive iodine treatment (don't ever do it!!!), and then going hypothyroid. My saving grace has been Evening Primrose Oil. I was on the verge of shaving my head when I started taking that supplement and it's done wonders. I take 2 1300mg pills every day.

  9. Hey there Molly. Great news on the continued weight loss ! Funny you mentioning the purposeful hair style you create. I normally get a wave put in mine just so I can have a fuller head of hair. It always turns out real pretty so why stop doing it. I normally lose mine up front and then all this baby hair starts growing back in making it look goofy, thank goodness for waves !
So, I got on the scale yesterday and there was no loss, but I'm thinking to myself to just weigh in once a week. Any thoughts on that ? Also, I feel I'm eating enough of what I should and drinking the minumum amount needed and I either have a full feeling for most of the day or I feel bloated. Blah ! I'm guessing my body needs time to adjust to what I'm doing now. Any thoughts on this ? Didn't do my walk yesterday due to a migraine which also left me feeling queasy most of the day. This morning I'll get back out there and do my walk. Thanks for your insight ! Maria

  10. Hey Molly, great job keeping up with your weight loss. I love reading your blog and find myself checking many times through the day to find out if you wrote something new.
I am not losing my hair to the point that I have bald spots, but I do clog the drain every morning. Mine comes in waves sometime I am hardly losing any and then it picks up again. Do you think it’s safe to assume that my levels may be out of wack if it starts again? Because I just had my meds increase in January and I was feeling pretty good(along with everything else that I try in hopes to feel like my old self, which I miss)but lately I have been feeling angry, I have been loosing my hair again and I have had a headache just about every day. Any thoughts??
For all of you out there trying to lose weight hang in there it’s tough but it can be done. I have managed to lose 20 pounds over the last few years and it has not been easy. I pretty much eat what I want but in moderation. I find if I don't do that then I will binge. I do use a salad plate at dinner. Right now I seem to be at stuck with my weight loss. I do a high impact kickboxing class, which has really been my ace in the hole. I really like going it's a great stress reliever and you really get a work out. The two instructors are in great shape and I think maybe I could have that body. They really do motivate me, they eat so healthy and they care about their health. I had to laugh one day at class the instructors were talking about going to Dunkin Donuts to share a donut and I am thinking split a donut they are nuts.
So sorry for going on and on, but it’s really nice to see other people out there going through the same thing. It’s hard to explain to others when they have no clue how you feel on the inside. I’m really not crazy. Have a great day. Heather

  11. Jen -- thank you so much! I think I will start doing that :) And I write down every little thing I eat, and then I mark off whatever it was I ate like: I ate 1/2 whole wheat english muffin, so I write that down and then mark off 1 Starch Serving. I hope that makes sense??

Lindi -- Thank you :) you guys are all so sweet. And unfortunately I already had radio active iodine done. It was a life or death situation. And I'm actually going to buy the evening primrose oil! I'm glad to hear it has helped someone else. How long did it take to start noticing a difference??

Maria -- Thanks for that! Yea I definitely have to part my hair on the side and then I have the swoop bangs going on...and that has always covered the balding parts and thankfully it's in style now. But now my bangs are too thin so I'm growing them out and going to start the evening primrose oil. Also if you feel too full, eat a little bit less. I was feeling full and so I ate the minimum of what she suggested...and then the veggies were making me too full so I took out 1-2 servings of that. Just do what makes you comfortable! And don't worry...if you don't feel good don't force yourself to work out. And when I start not losing every day I'm going to start weighing in twice or once a week so that's fine. Whichever makes you happiest. good luck!

Heather -- Wow yea definitely get your levels tested again, if you aren't feeling good that would be my first level of action. I can't remember the name of it but my old endo gave me a medication that stopped my heart palpitations and my migraines completely. it was a wonderful year without those...try talking to your doctor about something for those too. And great job on your weight loss! I hope you can get through this little wall you've hit! Sharing a donut?! I have known people that do that!!! One night we went to taco bell and my friends shared 1 soft taco. I was like...um....really?? haha! And no one thinks you're crazy, it really is super exciting to have other people know what you're going through! Good luck!

  12. Yay for you! I am weighing in on Friday. I had a rough weekend, so a gain might set me back a little. I am shopping tomorrow for my thyroid diet friendly food and today I created a chart I can keep in a binder (it's a duplicate of the sample Mary has in the book--to keep track of water and protein, etc.) I wanted it all together, so hopefully this will work.

I'm nervous about getting fiber in and also protein. Especially at lunch and breakfast (I'm not a big fan of eggs!)

:) Keep going Molly! Can't wait to see the next picture!

  13. Hey Courtney! no worries, I can't eat eggs! haha my family has always tried to get me to but I just can't. if you aren't finding foods with enough fiber try a fiber supplement! good luck let me know how friday goes!

  14. Congrats on your weight loss so far! Sounds like you are doing awesome! I know how you felt going in the gym- I have sadly left kickboxing class and cried the whole way home a couple of times, because I was comparing myself to all the tiny women in the class. ugh. I finally just gave in and bought the Thyroid Diet book and hope to start it in about a week and a half. I have been feeling so fatigued again and just went to have my thyroid tested again on Monday. The doctor said that Armour is available now, so he is finally switching me to that. I am hoping that it will work for me! Hoping to have it by next week before I leave for a short vacation!

  15. Thank you Jamie :) That breaks my heart about the kickboxing class though, I am so sorry. Just remember you're beautiful! Have fun on your vacation and I hope the Armour works for you and please let me know how the Thyroid Diet goes for you! Best of luck!

  16. Sorry took so long to post, but having computer issues. The evening primrose oil took almost two months to see any kind of difference. It comes back, but it's slow. Eating the way you are right now definitely helps too. Protein is your friend! Also, try to avoid pulling your hair back with ponytail holders or hair bands that have the teeth to help grip to your hair. I started to get the receding guy hairline thing going until I realized that.

  19. If somebody is diagnosed with low thyroid or hypothyroidism, then he should eat plenty of fruits, take some natural bovine thyroid and veggies. He also needs a proper guide of hypothyroidism diet too.
