10.

Hello Monday??? Where did the weekend go?! Well hello everyone, hope you all enjoyed your weekends! Mine was a lot of fun with the hubbs, and hanging out with new friends and some family but now we're back to work! So as you all know weekends are when I have my treat, and I'm not going to lie I had a little bit more than just my treat. We went out to a Mexican restaurant on Friday with friends and I did have some chips (only 10 though I counted) and an enchilada and a beer. Then Saturday was my date day with the husband and I of course had french fries and frozen yogurt. (Those two things were my treat...I give myself something sweet and something usually fried, because I really can't choose between the two) But then I also had a margarita...oh dear (no I don't usually drink...the drinks this weekend were more than I've had in over 6 months combined). So yea...not my best weekend but I was on my diet yesterday and back on my routine this morning. (being on the diet and my routine are totally different: Diet, eating what is allowed and the right portions, but not really eating a lot that day...just eating if I get hungry. My routine is eating 3 meals and 2 snacks, 1 every 2.25 hours, and getting all of my correct portions in.) I'm refusing to, just because I allowed myself a little extra this weekend, to go off my diet completely. I had my weekend, it's done, it's in the past now moving forward to losing weight again. So on Friday I weighed in at 304.8 (woohoo) but then Sunday I weighed 305.8 (expected...seeing as I ate my treat plus some) And then I weighed in this morning and I weighed 306.6 :( :( :( :( I gained .8 pounds while being on my diet and eating less than I usually do. Although I am bummed I'm not going to let it completely discourage me! I mean it obviously was my fault, right? Can't blame the thyroid on that one! Just a little set back on getting under 300, but I will definitely do this! And actually as of this weekend, I'm starting to see a huge difference in the way my clothes fit me. I mean I wasn't even seeing this difference last Wednesday. So that is definitely something to be excited about right? Thank you for reading this...I could definitely use a little encouragement. If you have done this, or started this diet recently please let me know how you're doing! Hearing about your successes encourages me like none other! Until next time!

  1. What an awesome weekend! Hey, you had fun and you are getting back on it and moving on. Great! What's even greater is you can literally see the difference in weigh-ins and know how it exactly happened. Now that you can see the cause and effect, you can keep that in mind.

Well....*drum roll*....I started the Thyroid Diet today! I picked the plan that I hate the most - carb-sensitive plan. I'm giving it 4 weeks and we'll see if I continue from there or not. I also start my adrenal meds on Wednesday, so that's going to help curb the sugar cravings and give me an extra push. As for the first day on the diet, it's gone okay. I've followed it to a tee, but it's not fun or anything.

1 and a half weeks ago, I strictly controlled my soy intake and I decreased sugar and carbs just on my own. I got on the scale this morning to start my diet and noticed that I lost 1.5 lbs since my doctors visit last Thursday. So I guess I'm starting off okay. :)

  2. Well I finally got my copy of the "Thyroid Diet" WOO!HOO! My husband and I went to the grocery store to buy Thyroid friendly foods..lol! So according to the book I am suppose to follow the "carb sensitive" plan too, so Sharper I'm right there with you! Molly dont be to hard on yourself girl, so you slipped it's okay, you know what you need to do to get back on track and anyways look at where you were when you first started this diet and look at the progress you have made! You have done an awesome job and I can only hope and pray that I can do this as well as you have! Well I do have a question for you all, my question is what type of Thyroid meds are you all on? What has worked for you and what hasn't? The reason I ask is because the endocrinologist I have been seeing for the past yr. and a half only prescribes Synthroid, despite the fact that I have told him on numerous occassions that I am still not feeling well. I have made an appt. with a new endo, she's female so maybe just maybe we can relate better! I just feel that I am not getting the best treatment for my condition. My current endo's response to everything is "Well your levels are where they need to be" "now you just have to lose some weight" Grrrr....not what I want to hear!!!! Lol! I am thinking I may have andrenal fatigue too! Well wish me luck tomorrow. God Bless and keep on going molly!

  3. Way to go Sharper! And thank you!!! Are you still having any soy at all? I'm excited for you!

BRENDA YAY!!! I'm so excited you got it! How are your first days going?! And also you need to find a Doctor that cares about you...not numbers. I hope you're able to find one soon!

  4. Molly - well I can't completely avoid it since it's in everything. But I try to keep it out of the top 5 ingredients of any packaging. Anything that had a lot of soy in it was thrown away.

Brenda - I've only been on Armour for not even a week yet, so I can't really report on results or anything. But the Synthroid was not doing it for me. I had the same endo as you - didn't care and didn't believe that you were doing everything you could. Wouldn't look further to see if there was another problem or something else. I read somewhere that most endos are like this. They tend to look at numbers and that's it. Not all are like that, but all the ones i saw were. I went to see an Internist last week. An Internist can think differently and look at other factors. Mine was very throughout in testing me and then I found out that i had serious adrenal fatigue. I had to order my meds for this, so I'm still waiting to get treated for it. But even though he said my thyroid levels were normal with the Synthroid, he understood about my troubles and switched my meds to Armour. The first day on Armour was complete hell. I didn't like it one bit. But my body has adjusted and I'm feeling much better. I can tell the difference in how I feel, but I can't really report that loosing weight is easier or anything.

  5. Brenda,
New to this site, but I identify with all of you. I've been on Armour Thyroid for 30 years!!! I had a goiter...and it went away on it's own with the medication. I have fought the good fight to obtain the med over the past year...and have found a new physician who was willing to assist me to obtain it thru an MD in Canada. I have tried Synthroid in the past...very poor results. My weight has always been a problem...and I'm trying weight watchers AGAIN, actually start again tonight...and will follow their program which greatly limits starches and sugar...and concentrates on fruit, veggies, whole grains and some protein. I hadn't thought about it, but I've been drinking soymilk for the past two years! I've read about the correlation of thyroid problems with added soy...but I'd like more info about this. I have lactose intolerance, so maybe "Rice Milk" :( ???
    would be the answer?
Glad to find you all here.

  6. Hi Molly thanks for your input as far as my Dr. goes! I am really looking forward to seeing the new endo on the 14th, I just read your current blog glad your back on track!!!! Just keep on going! I want to thank you again for starting this blog, you dont know how much it helps me too read what others have gone thru.
Sharper thanks for sharing your experience with Armour, I have never tried it, just synthroid that's all I have been on, and I went thru a very hard time at first, my hair was thinning really bad, my face broke out really bad...it was a nightmare, and all my endo said was keep on taking the synthroid and your symptoms will get better, my hair stopped falling out and my face cleared up somewhat but I still dont feel well! Hopefully this Dr. will listen to me and want to help me feel better.
Diana glad you joined us!!!! I've read alot about how soy can affect the thyroid in a negative way. Thanks everyone for your input and answers to my questions. God Bless!

  7. Diana, I've also heard Almond milk is good! But rice milk is great also, my boss isn't L.I., but he doesn't like reg. milk so they all drink rice milk! Maybe you should try it and see if you like it! Soy is definitely not good for thyroid! Sharper I definitely know it's in basically EVERYTHING! stupid soy...I read every label of the food I get and it's so annoying soy this soy that. blah! Brenda! I forgot to mention this in my last post, when you see the new endo, ask if you should be on something other than Synthroid. I know it works for a lot of people but it made me worse! There are a lot of different meds for thyroid, and Armour does seem to be really great for some people! Just don't forget to ask about your options!

  9. I wanted to add (and ask) that I recently read there's a correlation between gluten intolerance and thyroid issues...I've been off gluten for four weeks with little results, but also found out it stays in your system for three weeks after it's consumed.

Plus, gluten is in EVERYTHING...salad dressing, lots of processed foods, obviously bread... (I stay away from most processed foods anyway... but some hidden places are hard to find!)

Anyway, I wondered if anyone else had any kind of experience with this?

  10. Courtney I have NO idea! Hopefully someone reading this does! I know what you mean gluten is in everything! same with soy! they're like little food devils...haha! But there was a chance that I had...oh gosh now I can't even remember the name of it but I would have had to be gluten free if I did have it. And the Doctor knew I was hypothyroid and he never said anything about what affect gluten has on thyroid. I'll try to research something in a little bit and see what I find!
