13.

IT'S FINALLY FRIDAY! WOO! Good afternoon everyone! I just got a huge jump of new followers yesterday and I'm so excited about every one of you! (P.S....anyone can read my blog no matter what, but if you want to be a "follower" push the follow button near my list of followers) ALSO THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT! I've been getting lots of people sending my messages on facebook, emailing me and calling me saying they can't post comments. Well thanks to Redhead, I went looking all over this site and I think I found it! I changed it so that ANYONE can comment. So if you couldn't before, try now; I would love to hear from you :)  So I had another question asked this morning, this time about green tea! So Sherell, here is what I found: (Of course I looked at many sites, and they all pretty much said the same thing but I am going off Mary Shomon's sites again.) GreenTea&Metabolism here is a great article about how Green Tea can boost metabolism, which is awesome for those of us who have metabolisms that hibernate for....well forever. haha But later Mary wrote another article GreenTea&Fluoride in this she talks about how once again it is good for metabolism, BUT the fluroid in green tea may be a concern specifically for thyroid patients. So I checked out Fluoride, and it is SUPER bad for Thyroid patients. I've been told by many Doctors, don't drink tap water, drink bottled water! Never understood why, but now I do! It's in our water, and toothpaste...and apparently green tea! In an article, that is in the next link I'm going to post, it actually says, "Not everyone needs to avoid fluoride like the plague, but thyroid sufferers should." So here is that link Fluoride&Thyroid . I hope this helps Sherell!

Okay so yes I have some pretty wonderful news to share again. :) But I wanted to say that I started doing TTapp tody! I'm not doing it hardcore, but just a few things so we'll see how it goes! Anyone who doesn't know what TTapp is, here you go: T-Tapp! annnnnnnd I lost another 2 pounds yesterday :) I weigh 302, and I have lost 20 lbs total in 25 days! I am 2.1 lbs away from being under 300... you guys I'm just so excited right now! Thank you to everyone following this! You are all so amazing and keep me going :) Have a great weekend! Until next time!

  2. Yay for finding this! haha definitely if you have any questions at all let me know! I had RAI done too. that's what caused this whole hypothyroid mess. :(

  3. Is it normal to feel short of breath alot? Like you have a turtleneck shirt on?

    ReplyDelete
  4. yes! it is definitely normal for me! Actually, I can't wear T-Shirts or necklaces! I feel like I'm literally being choked. But I can stand up, walk 20 ft...and be fully out of breath. It's embarrassing...but it happens :(

  5. mint - get a breathing test done. There is a majority of hypothyroid patients that also have asthma. I was diagnosed with asthma a few months before my hypo diagnosis. I have to take Advair every morning to avoid getting that "closing airway" feeling.

molly - whoa! 2 more lbs! You are so close to getting out of the 300s! That's super exciting!

  6. Mint I am on a combination of Asmanex and Singulair, I also had RAI.The combination of the Asmanex and the Singulair has really helped me, for a while I stopped taking these meds and then I began to have shortness of breath however once I got back on them I can breathe alot better now.

Molly!!!!! Congrats! your almost there OMG! 20lbs is awesome!!!!! Well sadly I had a bit of a distraction. I ended up in the E.R. yesterday due to a cyst that ruptured in my uterus. This hurt to the point that it made me cry! I am at home now Yesterday I only ate breakfast I went to the E.R. around 11:45 a.m. and I didnt leave until close to 7:00 they (the nurses and doc's) refused to give me anyting to eat or drink!!!!! So I dont know if this messed me up on the Thyroid diet..(what do you think Molly?) I'm thinking it had to of slowed down my metabolism even more....so I got back into following the plan today. I am so happy for you Molly!!! Many blessing to you all!!!!

  7. Hi Molly, I have hypothyroidism too and stumbled accross your blog. I am thinking about starting my own blog as well. I am glad you are doing the best you can:-) I think some days - for me anyway - I can't tell if being hypo itself is causing weight gain - which I know it is - but also just being so tired and exhausted...I used to workout two hours a day and ran around all day, chased my child around, cleaned like crazy, ate simple (no cravings etc) and felt amazing....it started getting to the point (before I was diagnosed and even still today) where the only thing I could do was go to the gym...I went from putting 20,000+ steps a day to 3-5,000 steps a day because of fatigue. Weekends are awful because I can't wake up. I work in the healthcare field as an emt in an ER and also I do scheduling in a diabetes clinic. I am going to school for nursing as well. I started lifting weights and doing cardio etc when I was 21 - I m 29 now. I was diagnosed at 27. I have always been extremely health conscious and try to keep up as much as possible so it has been devastating for me. I will post here when I start a blog. I am going to try what is called an hcg diet. It's more than a diet though. And it has worked for everyone I know - including my mother who is a nurse practioner. I don't know anyone who has done it with a thyroid problem however. I will go into detail about it all when I start my blog - as well as what I do for myself and what meds I take etc. Some questions for you. Do you take t4 and t3 replacement? Any vitamins/supplements? Can you post your labs and all meds? I am trying to get a t3 (even if its a synthetic) but I have one of those t4 happy docs... :-( I have had my meds adjusted 12+ times probably I lost track. My tsh goes up so she ups my dose..it goes down...she lowers my dose...it goes back up...she ups my dose etc. It makes no sense. OH and when you are more active do you find your tsh creeping up? I do...and then I feel like crap and she ups my dose and I wait to work out until I feel better and than my tsh drops and she lowers my dose and then I try and work out and my tsh goes back up augh:-( I am looking for a new doctor....do you find this happens? I think it makes sense but I wish she could see it...

  8. Hi, great to see you're doing so well.
I'm not sure if i'm hypo any more. I started out hyper and the meds made me hypo. The doc says i'm normal now, but I've gained weight and feel tired a lot. I also have the "somthing stuck in throat" feeling. Good on you for your blog I wish you more success.
P.S About green tea:- Its the caffine that can boost your metabolism, it can also cause heart problems in tyroid conditions. There's a lot of hype at the moment about green tea, just remember it's just normal tea that hasn't been dried as much as black tea.

  9. Hey Molly,
You asked how my journey is going on the diet. I have been on the diet for five days now and have lost four pounds!! I lost a pond everyday except for this morning. I was kinda of disappointed but Im sure if I just stick with it the weight will come off. I have been keeping a food journal too and thats helping so much! Thanks for asking!

Keep up the good work :)

  10. wooohooo! You are sooo close! Go YOU!

I am working on my food plan this weekend, shopping early next week and changing my life in the process! :) I've been off gluten for awhile (slipped up on my husband's b'day on Tuesday) but am back to no gluten again.

Also noticed in Mary's book chicken isn't listed as a good lean protein. Uh-oh. That's about the only meat I eat... I'm not sure why it's not a good protein, but I'm gonna do some digging!

    :) Have a great weekend!!

  12. Hi Molly,
Like you I got hypothyroidism at a young age, 10 years old for me. It turned into autoimmune thyroiditis by 18 years old and now I'm 37 and have lived with it for 27 years. I can't find anywhere in your blog where you talk about taking Liothyronine or T3. About 10 years ago, I hit the point you are at with taking Levoxly and they just kept increasing my dose. Then my endocrinologist went to a conference where they discussed the use of T3 which has widely been used with success in conjunction with Levoxly for more than 20 years. The premise is the the body forgets how to convert the Levoxyl or T4 into the T3 that the brain needs. If you take a small amount of T3 with your Levoxly every day it will remind your body how to convert it and you will be able to lower your Levoxyl dose which will lesson some side effects for you. For me, starting T3 felt like coming out of a mental coma. My local pharmacy has to compound it and mix in a suspended releaser so that I can take one in the morning and have it last all day. Doctors can still check your blood levels because of the Levoxyl so they can track your progress. I just wanted to mention this since it appeared you might not know about it.
    Good luck and God Bless,
    Kate
PS- I have one miracle child of my own, my son, he is 16 this year and they told me the same thing as you after a miscarriage. So don't worry, they don't know everything and you could get your miracle child too, just hang in there!

  15. Hi Molly, GOOD LUCK AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK?? Got the Thyroid diet book and ready for a good read and hopefully will loose something.......di the gym, trainer, atkins..........with zilch results. on levox and cytomel for 6years now!! everyday is a struggle..................

  16. Hi Molly, I've only just found your blog and I've enjoyed catching up with your success. You have inspired me to re-read Mary's weightloss book and actually follow it this time.

I too have tried many different diets without much success. I find, for myself, the only way I can get even the tiniest amoutn of weightloss is if I exercise intensely everyday.

I have a question, do you eat the low fat varity or the full fat variety of foods? I like the idea of eating food in their more natural state, but then I always think I should eat low fat as I need to lose weight. I've read Mary's weightloss book but I can't remember if she mentions this.

Thank you for writing you blog, you truely have inspired me.

    Thanks
    Liz

  17. Hi Molly, I just came across your blog and I say YOU GO GIRL! I too have a tyroid problem and have gained 50 pounds. I have tried and tried to lose weight with no luck. I have always eaten healthy........I am a vegetarian and only eat organic, non-processed foods. I haven't gained anytnhing in a couple of years, but I cannot even lose 1 pound! It is so frustrating. You have inspired! I am not giving up! I just ordered the books you have mentioned and hope to start the Thyroid Diet soon. I haven't received the book yet, but was wondering if the diet works for people with hypothyroidism that is not autoimmune based.

Keep up the good work! And thanks for inspiring me!

    Sharon

  18. Okay! Time to get back to the comments! HAHA!
Sharper, Brenda and Linda -- thank you so much you all are so sweet! Sharper and Brenda -- thank you for the tips for Mint! I love that you guys are all there for each other! And Brenda -- do not worry about the ER! do not consider that messing up, that is something totally out of your control! The only thing I would be worried about is getting yourself back to normal :)
Anonoymous 1 -- Good luck on the HCG diet! I'm excited to see what exactly it is haha I've never heard of it and definitely let me know when you start a blog! And it is different for every person, but I know thyroid definitely caused my weight gain! also, if you used to work out a lot and you don't know your muscle will start turning to fat. And muscle burns fat even when you aren't doing anything...so that can definitely be a factor too! Right now I'm taking a T4 replacement (Levoxyl) and it's the best med that has worked for me and no I do not take any other supplements! My Drs said not to so I'm afraid to now! haha. My TSH levels are so over the place we haven't noticed any pattern, but that's crazy and frustrating that yours goes up the more active you are! Also, if you think you need a new Doctor, then you probably do! Don't stay with a Dr that you don't like and wont listen to you! I will post stuff about my labs in the next post! Best of luck!
Anonymous 2 -- Well if you're normal right now that's really good, but from what you said I would definitely go get all your numbers checked again! Ask your Dr for some blood tests and tell them how you're feeling!
Megan -- 4lbs in 5 days!? THAT'S AWESOME! Keep it up lady, you are doing amazing! I'm praying for you!
Courtney W -- How did the grocery shopping go? And as for the chicken part, I still eat chicken, actually I mainly eat chicken and red meat even though you know what Mary has said. But when I talked to her she said if you were so used to eating that frequently, don't cancel it out. That can be bad for you! So no worries, if I'm eating chicken I'm sure you can too haha! ;-)
Anonymous 3 -- I definitely think you should try this diet! It's obviously been great for me and many others, and when/if you do let me know!
Kate -- It broke my heart to read your post I'm so sorry! And yes I've actually taken Liothyronine before, and it made me incredibly bad. It was just not a good medication for me :( But I'm so glad the T3 is working so well for you! I've tried T3 meds and my T4, Levoxyl has been the best so far. and thank you for renewing my hope that I will have a baby :)
Anonymous 4 -- I have heard about Mirena but I have been told not to do it, and when I looked up stuff about it, you have a greater chance at getting one of the "risks" if you have thyroid problems. The birth control I take is a thyroid friendly one! Good luck on the thyroid diet! let me know how it goes!
Liz -- Yay! I'm glad you're gonna go through the book again! Let me know how you do when you start the diet! I'll be cheerin you on! And I'm kinda on the fence when it comes to the low fat/ full fat. If I'm eating a salad dressing I eat full fat because a lot of the low fats are bad for you...but milk I have nonfat and sometimes 2% so I kinda go both ways!
Dani Gee -- I checked out that site and read it. I've heard lots of things like that plus more about bottled water, but from what I've talked with my Doctor about, that's what she prefers me to drink. Thanks for the site!
Sharon -- Thank you so much you are too sweet! How frustrating that you can't lose! I have so been there! And you eat so well too :( I'm happy you ordered the books, and I think the thing is that on the Thyroid Diet, you eat thyroid friendly foods. There are a lot of healthy foods that aren't thyroid friendly, and that has honestly made the difference! Best of luck!

  19. Way to go, Molly - keep fighting the good fight! It's never easy, but for what it's worth, I'm rooting for you!

  20. Molly.....I am so thrilled for you.....under the 300 pound mark!!! That is a huge accomplishment. I am currently on Armour Thyroid 150mg. daily....and I'm getting it from Canada, with cooperation from my US MD...and it's helping me feel like I did years ago!! I can only hope that my 'weigh-in' tonight at WW will show some improvement too. I'm eating mainly THYROID DIET foods, though need to be accountable at the meetings and weigh-ins. Hope I have a happy story to report.

    ReplyDelete
  21. WOO DIANA! I wanna know how the weigh in goes! I love the thought of WW meetings because you aren't the one that gets to read your weight, THEY DO! That's why I'm so glad my husband reads the scale for me. There's no way getting around that one. haha! I'm so glad the armour is making you feel great! That's wonderful to hear!

  22. I took desiccated porcine supplements for over six weeks and stopped taking other supplements. My tiredness and joint pain basically all the symptoms of low thyroid decreased.
