2.

So today is day 2 of the Thyroid Diet and so far everything is going really well! On the first post I said I weighed 323 lbs. Well the day I started (the following day/yesterday) I weighed in at 322 (not uncommon or exciting...I go in between 322&324 all the time) BUT I am excited to say that this morning when I weighed in I was at 319.4! So I lost 2.6 lbs yesterday alone. :) (and with this diet you're supposed to lose about 1 pound a week)

Now I know many diets say only weigh yourself once a week, (and one my Dad does wont let you weigh for the first 12 weeks!) but on this diet you're actually supposed to weigh yourself everyday. That way if I were to gain a pound or more one day, I can look back and see what I ate, if I worked out, how much water I drank blah blah blah and I can decide what probably made me gain the weight and not do it the next day.

Although the author says you don't have to count the calories on this diet, I did anyway. I'm eating around 1267 calories a day, drinking around 10 glasses of water and I have to have certain amounts of starches, fruits, veggies, protein and good fats. For the majority of the day every time I was about to eat a meal or snack was right when I would start getting hungry again so it was perfect. I was pretty hungry still after dinner but I decided not to eat and I'm glad I didn't. I'm also walking anywhere between 30-40 minutes a day.

I really like the food I'm eating and it's a great diet because I can still eat if I go out. So...so far so good! I don't feel much better (thyroid wise) but I feel great with what I'm doing! Thank you all for the encouragement! You guys are great! Until next time!

  2. Molly, you can do this! Keep searching for good health! Mary's books really helped me. I'm re-reading The Thyroid Diet now & hope that I will be able to lose weight too. I weigh 240 lbs, which is down from 260 that I weighed after a thyroid lobectomy in August 2009.

  3. Hi Molly! I just became a follower of you! I applaud you for writing this blog. That's great that you saw some weight loss. I am also struggling with my weight. I am at 184lbs now from 130 lbs just 4 years ago. I recently discovered some natural supplements online and after doing a lot of research...I bought them. I lost 5lbs in 10 days! I was 189 before I started them. Anyways, I am following a no grain diet and I am also vegetarian...so hopefully this is all helping!

  4. Hi Molly, I am cheering you on from California!!! I was diagnosed with lupus when I was 19 and was told that I would not be able to have children. I took ahold of my disease the best I could and just yesterday my son turned 7 and I also have twin daughters that are 3. A year ago I was diagnosed hypothyroid and have gained a lot of weight. Just know you are not alone!

  5. Hi Molly! I think you are very courageous for writing this blog and fighting the good fight! I love that your not giving up. Question: Are you on T4 meds only like Synthroid? Or are you on dessicated thyroid? I just got put on Synthroid 2 months ago. And to be honest, I dont see any difference. If anything, I have noticed I am even hungrier, lol.

  6. Oh wow I'm not sure if Levoxyl is only a T4 med but I'm pretty sure it is. I've taken Synthroid but that was YEARS ago. I've tried 6 different medications:
Cytomel, Levoxyl, Thyrolar, Synthroid, Levothyroxine, Levothyronine...(if one of those is just a generic name then I'm missing something...) All I know is I've tried 6 different medications and though none have really worked Levoxyl has been the best so far

  10. You are doing so well! Keep up the positive attitude!
When I finally got to the right doctor they would ask on a scale of 1-5 how are you feeling. So, regardless of my tests they went on how well I was doing. And then looked at my tests. I actually do better on the high end to over normal. Being mentally fit was the goal for me.
Unfortunately, you were forced into hypo from the removal of your thyroid so it may be different for you than others. But remember that stress increases your thyroidism-I think this is evidenced in your weight gain right before your wedding. Keep your stress to a minimum.
And make sure all bodily functions are working properly. I was constipated for so many years and that stuff had to go somewhere and if not out of me...it was absorbed and became me. :( I now take Magnesium to keep me relaxed and help with that end.
    Best of luck to you!

  11. Molly,

Hey girl, this is really crazy but I feel we are living the same life but in two different bodies. Our stories are very similar! I started at the beginning of your story and wow, how crazy this is. I am the same height as you and my average weight was around 140 in high school and into my early twenties. Once I found out that my thyroid wasn't functioning right, that is when the problems began, when I was 13 yrs old. My thyroid was removed about 9 years ago. My doctor thought I had cancer. I was 22 at the time. They removed the thyroid and holy cow did I turn into one! And to top things off, I haven't been formally diagnosed but I am pretty sure I have fybermalga. My journey began three years ago when I went to the dr and he first accused me of taking too much thyroid medicine and then he flat out told me I was fat. Talk about trusting your dr. That day was the first day on my mission to take control of my weight. I picked up the book called "The best life diet". Awesome book. My weight at the time was 220 lbs. I am a now down to 170 lbs. This is has been such a journey.

Just reading the second blog of yours and I am already inspired to keep going. I'm going to continue to read and make comments as I go.

  12. JoAnn, Jneen and Susan -- thank you to all of you for your inspiration and thoughts!

Rubbernecklove -- oh my word that is so crazy how similar we are! So new twin from somewhere else, yea? haha! I'm so proud of you and excited for you that you've lost 50 lbs so far! That's amazing! :) And as for your Doctor...I definitely don't know what I think about him. Any Doc that accuses you...is pretty much never on my good side. They are there to help you, they need to listen and not accuse.
